For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. “The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. Children are our future and our future depend upon the quality of education. In order to empower every child with education, Yuva Bengaluru Trust started School Kit Project in 2008 to provide educational aids to children from economically weaker sections of the society. 
 Yuva Bengaluru started this project by distributing kits to 400 children in 2008. In 2019, we were able to reach out to 3000 children. Every school is important for us. And similarly, every child is special. But there are some schools and children who need special attention and care due to various socio-economic, cultural and geographical reasons. Yuva Bengaluru reaches out to such needy students in remote / rural areas of Karnataka.

Quality education and a good future are still a dream for many of India’s 270 million government school students. An alarming percentage, even in higher grades, cannot read or write in their mother tongue, let alone English. Over half cannot perform even addition or subtraction, and many suffer from anaemia. India is set to have the largest youth population by 2020, with over 363 million children below the age of 15. But the situation under which country is reeling, the youth will turn out to be a burden to the already overburdened society. 
 Yuva has created the Government School Adoption Program to reach out to these students in Bengaluru. The program includes imparting our experience, resources and methodology to government schools. We also provide provision for remedial classes. Realising the importance of health and sanitation amongst children, we assure that they have access to safe drinking water and good sanitation facilities. To impart holistic development amongst the kids we conduct o Skill development classes, educational trips and extra-curricular activities like yoga, sports, arts and music. Above all, we aim at inducing a spirit of enthusiasm and joy in each child. 
 Our programme has benefited 3,054 students (boys and girls) in 12 schools in Karnataka. The student to teacher ratio which was 70:1 has now reduced to 40:1. We have mainstreamed 61% slow-learning students (1,862 students). The conducive atmosphere for studying has created confident and better-performing students who regularly attend school.
